Junior Golf Parents,
I am extremely excited to be joining the David Toms Academy as your new Director of Instruction. I’ve spent the last 10 years developing junior golfers using the programs outlined here for your review. This program produced 3 AJGA Champions, the 2018 North South Junior Girls Champion, 15 MGA Junior Amateur Champions, and numerous champions on multiple tours throughout the Southeast Region.
On my first visit to the Academy, I noticed the photos of Sam Burns and Phillip Barbaree on display. It is unusual for two players of their caliber to come from the same state let alone the same city. In my experience their success was not developed by chance but rather achieved by a self-driven desire to excel. I am often asked what high level players have in common. Most people believe they are born good at golf, have the perfect swing, and have access to the best equipment. I would offer they weren’t born good at anything, Jim Furyk is referred to as “Mr. 58”, and Tiger Woods used the same putter to win 13 major championships!
In my experience, high level players possess three common characteristics; they show up, buy in, and work hard. The direct correlation in successful outcomes is attributable to these three factors; adequate time spent working on technique and skill development, trust and belief in the instruction process, and hard work put in by the golfer.
Junior Development Program 2021:
The foundation for our youngest golfers (ages 7-9) begins with DT1, a 10-week program on Tuesdays centered around developing the athlete and introducing them to the fundamentals of golf. Cost is $350 for members and $450 for non-members.
