Eleven years ago, I was compelled to help with Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts after meeting evacuees in my hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana. Getting to know the victims, hearing their stories and witnessing their suffering made that event deeply personal for me. Through the work of the David Toms Foundation, we were able to give more than $3 million in assistance to families impacted by Katrina.
The recent flooding in South Louisiana has hit even closer to home for me, as I spent part of my childhood in Denham Springs and still have family and friends in the area who were directly affected by the flood. My sister’s house flooded, along with a great number of others who have lost everything. Elementary schools that I attended were severely flooded, affecting thousands of students.
There are many ways to help in times of natural disaster. At The David Toms Foundation, our mission is to help children. So, we are partnering with Assess the Need, a 501(c)3 organization, to provide school supplies and basic educational needs to the displaced students in Livingston Parish and Greater Baton Rouge area.
I ask that you please join me in this effort, to help these children in need. Please mail a check made payable to David Toms Charitable Foundation, 1111 Academy Drive, Shreveport, LA 71115 or make an on-line donation by clicking the Donate Button. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated.
